EU Approves Iran’s Labs for Pistachio Exports
WANA (Dec 10) – The Director-General of Iran’s Reference Laboratories at the Food and Drug Administration (IFDA) announced that the European Union has officially approved the competence of Iran’s reference laboratories following specialized assessments.
The EU will now accept health certificates issued by these laboratories for pistachio exports—an achievement that underscores Iran’s scientific standing and its established capabilities in quality control.
Mehdi Ansari Dogahe highlighted the importance of monitoring aflatoxin levels in pistachios, noting that strict control plays a crucial role in strengthening the international reputation of Iranian products and securing access to European markets.
He stated that Iran exports roughly 100,000 tons of pistachios annually, about 10,000 tons of which go to the EU. This volume, he added, contributes significantly to enhancing Iran’s global credibility.
According to the IFDA official, Iran has achieved a high level of technical expertise and operational capacity in pistachio quality control over the past two decades through consistent investment, workforce training, and laboratory infrastructure development.
The Food and Drug Administration reported that pistachio exports generated approximately $1.5 billion last year—a result made possible by strict compliance with regulations set by the IFDA and the Ministry of Agriculture.
Ansari noted that the EU’s acceptance of Iran’s reference laboratory certifications not only reinforces the country’s scientific standing but also boosts confidence in the quality of Iran’s export products.
