WANA (Jun 15) – The leaders of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy have welcomed the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran, describing it as an opportunity to restore regional stability and support the global economy.

 

In a joint statement, the four European leaders congratulated all mediators involved in the negotiations, including Qatar and Pakistan, and called for the rapid and full implementation of the agreement as well as the completion of detailed negotiations.

 

The statement emphasized that the leaders “strongly welcome” the understanding reached between the United States and Iran, while reiterating that Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon. They also expressed readiness to support sanctions relief in response to clear Iranian steps regarding its nuclear program.

 

The leaders stressed the importance of strengthening the agreement to ensure regional security and stability, noting that the success of the next phase will depend on the implementation of mutual commitments and the enhancement of monitoring and verification mechanisms to safeguard the interests of all parties.

 

They also reaffirmed their full support for the stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Lebanon and underscored the importance of achieving a lasting ceasefire to help reduce tensions in the country.

 

Earlier, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said attention must now turn to the full implementation of the memorandum to ensure the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and guarantee its long-term accessibility.

 

Starmer added that Britain and France stand ready to provide support for mine-clearing operations under an agreed framework. He welcomed the understanding reached between Washington and Tehran and congratulated U.S. President Donald Trump and international mediators—particularly Pakistan and Qatar—for their role in helping bridge differences between the two sides.

 

Describing the agreement as a positive step toward reducing regional tensions and reviving diplomacy after a prolonged period of escalation, Starmer said the deal presents a significant opportunity to enhance regional stability.

 

British Foreign Secretary also voiced strong support for the announcement, saying the United Kingdom welcomes the agreement between the United States and Iran.

 

French President Emmanuel Macron likewise welcomed the accord, calling it the result of extensive diplomatic efforts involving numerous international partners. He urged all parties to ensure the swift and complete implementation of the agreement.

 

Macron added that the deal enables the immediate and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a process that international missions are prepared to support. He stressed that the resumption of unrestricted and toll-free maritime traffic through the strategic waterway is essential for both regional stability and the global economy.

 

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also hailed the agreement as a diplomatic achievement, saying it paves the way for a more dynamic global economy and a safer Middle East. He emphasized that determined and sustained efforts will be necessary to ensure its successful implementation.
