European Union Extends Sanctions on Iran Until 2027
WANA (Mar 30) – The Council of the European Union announced today that it has extended sanctions against Iran, citing what it described as “serious human rights violations,” until April 13, 2027.
The measures include travel bans and asset freezes targeting sanctioned individuals and entities, as well as restrictions on the export of certain equipment to Iran.
In addition, EU citizens and companies are prohibited from making funds or economic resources available to those listed under the sanctions.
As part of the latest review, the Council also decided to remove the name of one deceased individual from the sanctions list. The list currently includes 262 individuals and 53 entities.
The European Union first imposed its human rights-related sanctions regime on Iran in 2011 and has renewed it annually ever since.
Since 2022, the bloc has significantly expanded these measures, adopting several additional sanctions packages.
