WANA (Jul 24)According to media reports, a former security guard at the U.S. Embassy in Oslo is facing criminal prosecution in Norway on charges of espionage for Iran and Russia.

Norwegian prosecutors allege that the security guard at the U.S. Embassy is a 27-year-old suspect who provided sensitive information to foreign governments between March and November 2024.

The individual is accused of passing along detailed data regarding American diplomats, including their contact information, as well as information about embassy staff and their families.

He is also alleged to have shared internal maps of the embassy, security procedures, and a list of couriers reportedly used by the Norwegian intelligence services.

Reports indicate that the suspect may have been motivated by opposition to U.S. support for Israel during the recent conflict in Gaza. Citing Iran’s anti-Israel stance, the suspect allegedly initiated contact with Iranian officials as well.

In an official indictment dated July 22, Norwegian prosecutors emphasized the gravity of the charges, noting that the deliberate transfer of such information to a foreign state is considered particularly serious. If convicted, the accused could face up to 21 years in prison.

The suspect’s lawyer claims his client did not have access to classified information and argues that sharing publicly available data should not be considered a security breach. Judicial investigations are still ongoing.
