Exchange of Fire Reported in Strait of Hormuz as Missile Launches Detected from Southern Iran
WANA (May 28) – Initial reports from Bandar Abbas and the Strait of Hormuz indicate sounds of gunfire and possible naval clashes in the waters south of Iran, amid emerging accounts of missile launches carried out by Iranian armed forces.
According to local sources and domestic media reports, several explosions and firing sounds were heard near Bandar Abbas and surrounding waters. Some reports suggest the Iranian navy may have issued warning fire toward unidentified or non-compliant vessels. However, officials have not yet fully confirmed the details of the incident.
The Army Air Defense Command Center stated that no explosion had occurred inside Bandar Abbas itself and that the sounds originated from the sea, describing them as part of an “exchange of fire aimed at warning non-compliant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.”
At the same time, reports indicated that Iranian armed forces launched missiles from southern regions of the country toward what were described as “specific targets.” The exact destination of the missiles remains unclear, though some sources speculate that military engagement may be underway in the waters of the Persian Gulf.
Field reports have also rejected earlier claims circulating on social media about explosions inside the provinces of Bushehr and Hormozgan.
The developments come only hours after reports of what Iranian media described as hostile activity targeting areas east of Bandar Abbas earlier in the day, followed by what was presented as a missile response by Iranian forces.
Further details about the scale of the incident and the exact nature of the naval and missile operations remain under investigation, while no official statement has yet clarified the identity of the opposing side involved in the reported confrontation.
