Execution of an ISIS Terrorist Carried Out
WANA (Aug 06) – Iran’s Judiciary announced that the death sentence of Mehdi Asgharzadeh, a member of the terrorist group Daesh (ISIS), was carried out on Wednesday morning, July 6, 2025, following due legal process and approval by the Supreme Court.
According to the Judiciary’s Media Center, Asgharzadeh, the son of Abdolkarim and known by the aliases “Abu Khaled” and “Hesam,” had joined Daesh and traveled to Syria and Iraq, where he received military and ideological training at the group’s bases. He was injured while in the conflict zones and later transferred to Iraq.
Case documents indicate that together with a five-member team, he planned to infiltrate Iran through the western highlands to carry out sabotage operations at religious sites. Their training included grenade throwing, indiscriminate shooting at gatherings, and suicide missions.
Before the plan could be executed, the group’s safe house was identified and dismantled by security forces. Four members of the cell were killed in the operation, while Asgharzadeh fled the scene. Large quantities of weapons, suicide vests, hand grenades, explosive devices, and communication equipment were seized from the location.
His case was reviewed in court with the presence of a defense attorney. He was convicted of efsad fel-arz (spreading corruption on earth) through extensive activity within the Daesh terrorist group and actions against public security, and sentenced to death. The ruling was upheld by the Supreme Court and subsequently carried out.
