Execution of Espionage Convict in Iran for Spying for Israel
WANA (Jun 16) – This morning, Iran carried out the execution of a man convicted of espionage for Israel. The individual, Esmail Fekri, son of Khodanazar, had been tried on charges of intelligence cooperation with the Israeli intelligence agency and was executed following the completion of judicial proceedings and confirmation of the verdict by the Supreme Court.
According to judicial and security authorities, Fekri was arrested in December 2023 during a domestic intelligence operation, while still allegedly in contact with Mossad. Informed sources stated that during his collaboration with the agency, he provided classified and sensitive information related to specific individuals and locations in exchange for rewards.
Case documents indicate that Fekri was in contact with two Mossad officers. His cooperation reportedly began after being initially recruited by one of them. Evidence shows that communications between Fekri and the Mossad officer were intercepted and recovered from electronic devices. In these messages, the officer instructed him to collect specific intelligence and transmit it through a secure channel.
Later, in 2022, Fekri was introduced to a second officer, operating under the alias “Amir.” This officer provided technical instructions and asked Fekri to set up a new communication platform for sending reports. In July 2022, he was also instructed to install a specific digital wallet on his phone to facilitate financial support.
During this period, Iranian security agencies tracked his electronic communications and placed Fekri and his network under surveillance. Eventually, after completing necessary intelligence operations, he was arrested in December 2023.
Published information indicates that the main charge against him involved attempts to transfer classified intelligence, including sensitive locations and mission details. His execution has been presented as part of Iran’s efforts to counter espionage activities.
