WANA (Apr 25) – Early this morning, the execution sentence of a main defendant in the January 2026 unrest in Isfahan, Iran, was carried out after completing all legal procedures and receiving final approval from the Supreme Court.

 

According to official reports, Erfan Kiani had been identified as a central figure in the disturbances and was prosecuted on charges including destruction and arson of public and private property, spreading fear and panic across the city, possession and use of cold weapons and Molotov cocktails, and leading violent activities.

 

Case documents state that during the events of January 8, 2026, in the Chaharrah-e Pirouzi area of Isfahan, he led a group that damaged public property, set fires in the streets, and blocked traffic routes amid ongoing gatherings. He was also accused of attacking law enforcement officers, throwing stones and Molotov cocktails, and taking part in the destruction of a local bank branch.

 

Judicial reports indicate that he played an active role on the ground while carrying a bladed weapon, encouraging others to engage in violent acts and contributing significantly to public disorder and insecurity. He also admitted to preparing and using multiple Molotov cocktails and participating in acts of arson in areas including Jey Street.

 

Following his arrest, a judicial case was opened, and court hearings were held in the Isfahan Revolutionary Court in the presence of his legal counsel. The court ultimately convicted him of “moharebeh” (waging war against the state) through the use of a weapon to intimidate the public, incite violence, and block public roads, sentencing him to death.

 

After the defendant appealed, the case was reviewed by the Supreme Court, which upheld the ruling based on available evidence, testimonies, confessions, and reconstructed crime scenes. Upon completion of all legal formalities, the sentence was carried out at dawn today.

 

Reports also indicate that related cases have been processed, with verdicts issued for several other defendants. So far, 15 individuals connected to these events in Isfahan, Iran, have been sentenced to imprisonment following the completion of legal proceedings.
