WANA (Nov 05) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that strengthening parliamentary relations is one of the main objectives of his two-day trip to Pakistan. Speaking before his departure, Ghalibaf stated that he will meet with the Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly, the Chairman of the Senate, and senior government officials, with economic cooperation being the central focus of the talks.

Ghalibaf noted that the visit is taking place at the invitation of Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly. He added that a delegation of Iranian lawmakers, including members of the Iran-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group, is accompanying him on the trip to help advance inter-parliamentary cooperation.

He highlighted Pakistan’s clear stance in support of Iran during the recent 12-day conflict, saying the position taken by Pakistan’s parliament, government, and people was appreciated in Tehran.

Ghalibaf said meetings with Pakistani government authorities and the prime minister will primarily address economic issues, including cross-border trade and cooperation in border markets. He added that the visit will also seek to follow up on agreements reached during the Iranian president’s recent visit to Pakistan.

Emphasizing the deep cultural ties between the two neighboring countries, Ghalibaf underscored the importance of political, regional, and border cooperation. He said regional conditions require enhanced coordination between Iran and Pakistan, especially in light of what he described as external interference, particularly from the United States.

The Iranian parliament speaker also stressed that security and political concerns are shared between the two countries, adding that the issue of Israel should remain a common priority for the Islamic world.

Ghalibaf concluded by expressing hope that the trip will lead to positive outcomes in political, security, cultural, and economic relations between Iran and Pakistan.
