WANA (May 07) – Local sources reported hearing several explosions Thursday night near Qeshm Island and Bandar Abbas in southern Iran, triggering widespread speculation about the nature of the incident and possible regional involvement.

Initial reports indicate that the exact source of the explosions remains unclear. Some local accounts suggested that part of the activity may have been linked to operations by Iran’s naval forces in the Strait of Hormuz, allegedly involving warning actions toward vessels accused of unauthorized passage through the strategic waterway.

According to field reports from Bandar Abbas, parts of the commercial section of Bahman Port in Qeshm were struck during what was described as an exchange of fire between Iranian forces and an unidentified enemy. Additional reports stated that the passenger terminal at Bahman Port was also targeted, with the administrative building of the port reportedly hit in the attack.

Some Iranian media outlets noted that the same port had previously been targeted several times during the Iran-Iraq War, often referred to in Iran as the “Ramadan War,” highlighting the site’s longstanding strategic significance in the Persian Gulf.

At the same time, unofficial sources claimed that air defense systems in Bandar Abbas had engaged two drones. These reports have not been independently verified or officially confirmed.

The incident quickly drew reactions across regional media. An Israeli source speaking to i24NEWS denied any Israeli involvement in the events inside Iran. However, other unverified reports circulated in regional outlets alleging that Emirati fighter jets may have been involved in the strike on Bahman Port — a claim that has not been confirmed by any official authority.

Meanwhile, several media outlets close to political factions in Iran described the incident as a possible “hostile act” by the UAE and warned of consequences should such allegations prove accurate.

Despite the growing wave of claims and counterclaims, Iranian authorities have so far not issued a comprehensive official statement clarifying the cause of the explosions, the extent of the damage, or the identity of those potentially involved. Investigations and follow-up reports are ongoing.

Shortly after reports of explosions being heard in Bandar Abbas and Qeshm, Arab media sources also reported hearing explosion sounds in Abu Dhabi.
