Update | Farewell Ceremony for Iran’s Supreme Leader Postponed

WANA (Mar 04) – Due to expectations of an unprecedented public turnout, the farewell ceremony for Iran’s Supreme Leader has been postponed, with a new date to be announced shortly.

According to Iran’s national media, the decision was made in anticipation of millions of mourners and the need to complete necessary infrastructure.

The ceremony will take place in Tehran; however, contrary to earlier reports suggesting it would be held tonight at 10:00 PM (local time) at Tehran’s Musalla, the schedule has not yet been finalized, and the exact timing will be announced later.

WANA (Mar 04) – Islamic Development Coordination Council in Tehran announced that the Imam Khomeini Musalla will open its doors to the public from 10:00 p.m. (local time) tonight for a farewell ceremony honouring the late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

Hojjatoleslam Seyed Mohsen Mahmoudi, head of the council in Tehran Province, said on Wednesday that the Iranian nation is mourning the loss of its leader. He added that the public’s devotion could be seen in the large nighttime gatherings held in recent days across cities nationwide, particularly in Tehran Province.

Mahmoudi stated that the time has now come to bid farewell to “a figure of the century,” noting that the ceremony will take place on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the Musalla of Imam Khomeini in Tehran.

He said millions are expected to attend to pay their respects.

The official added that the farewell ceremony will continue for three consecutive nights at the Tehran Musalla.

He called on all segments of society — men and women, young and old, academics and seminary students, workers, farmers, business owners, teachers, and students — to participate in large numbers and demonstrate national unity, loyalty to the ideals of the Islamic Revolution, and steadfastness in the face of external adversaries.

Mahmoudi said the anticipated mass turnout would mark “another golden page” in the record of the Iranian people’s loyalty.

The developments follow attacks carried out on Saturday by the United States and Israel against multiple locations in Iran, despite ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

Iranian officials described the strikes as an act of aggression that occurred while Iran was engaged in talks aimed at increasing transparency regarding the peaceful nature of its nuclear activities.

Following those attacks, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, was reported killed.
