Farhadi’s “Parallel Tales” Debuts at Cannes with Star-Studded Red Carpet
WANA (May 15) – The red carpet for Parallel Tales, the latest feature from Academy Award-winning director Asghar Farhadi, took place ahead of its world premiere in the main competition of the 79th Cannes Film Festival.
The high-profile event saw a significant gathering of French cinema’s elite. Leading the arrivals were legendary actresses Isabelle Huppert and Catherine Deneuve, joined by stars including Vincent Cassel, Virginie Efira, and Adam Bessa.
Simultaneous Theatrical Release
Parallel Tales, which runs 140 minutes, begins its official commercial run in French cinemas today, May 14, coinciding with its Cannes debut. Under festival regulations, all films selected for the main competition are required to receive a theatrical release in France.
A Meta-Narrative Thriller
The film follows Sylvie, a writer struggling to find inspiration for her new novel, who begins observing the neighbors living across from her. Her life takes a turn when a young man named Adam enters the fold to assist her with personal matters.
While everything appears normal on the surface, the boundaries between reality and Sylvie’s fictional world begin to blur, as her novel’s narrative starts to outpace real-life events.
The 79th Cannes Film Festival is currently underway and will continue through May 23.
