WANA (Jun 19) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei announced that the meeting scheduled to be held in Switzerland on Friday has been postponed, adding that preparations are underway to organize another meeting in the coming days.

 

Speaking to reporters about the next phase of negotiations aimed at drafting a final agreement, Baghaei said that consultations are ongoing through mediators and that further details will be announced once the necessary conditions for launching the talks are in place.

 

He emphasized that, under the terms of the recently signed memorandum of understanding, negotiations on a final agreement can only begin after the implementation of Clauses 1, 4, 5, 10, and 11 has commenced and continues as stipulated.

 

Explaining the reason for postponing the Swiss meeting, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted that one of its primary objectives had been the signing of the agreement to formally end the imposed war. Discussions on the framework and arrangements for final-status negotiations were also expected to take place on the sidelines of the event.

 

However, since the memorandum of understanding was signed digitally in the early hours of June 18, the urgency of holding the meeting in Switzerland has diminished, leading to its postponement.

 

Baghaei also dismissed reports claiming that Iran had invited inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to visit the country’s nuclear facilities. Referring to Clause 8 of the June 18 memorandum ending the conflict, he said that negotiations on the nuclear issue are scheduled to take place within a 60-day timeframe and are contingent upon the fulfillment of the prerequisites outlined in Clause 13 of the document.

 

According to the spokesperson, Clause 9 of the memorandum stipulates that the current status of Iran’s nuclear program will remain unchanged throughout the 60-day negotiation period. As a result, inspections that are already underway at facilities such as Bushehr will continue. However, the resumption of inspections at sites where IAEA access was suspended following military attacks by the United States and Israel will depend on the course and outcome of the negotiations.

 

Baghaei concluded by stating that Iran’s diplomatic team is currently working on arrangements for a new meeting in the coming days to discuss the implementation of the memorandum and the path toward reaching a final agreement.
