WANA (Aug 19) – Mohsen Haji-Mirzaei, Chief of Staff to the Iranian President, announced on the sidelines of Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Yerevan that on the very first day of the trip, nine cooperation agreements were signed between Iran and Armenia in the fields of culture, cinema, museum exchanges, and politics.

Highlighting the historical and civilizational ties between the two countries, he said: “Iran and Armenia may have different cultures and languages, but they share a deep-rooted common civilization. According to surveys, 85 percent of Armenians hold a positive view of Iran, and even during the 12-day war waged by the Zionist regime against Iran, they expressed solidarity with the Iranian people.”

The Chief of Staff also spoke of the Iranian delegation’s packed schedule: “The President met with Iranians living in Armenia to hear their concerns, visited the Blue Mosque of Yerevan, and held talks with Armenia’s Prime Minister on political and economic issues.”

According to Haji-Mirzaei, a group of Iranian businesspeople also accompanied the delegation and held discussions with Armenia’s private sector. He added: “Joint meetings focused on boosting trade, implementing barter-based exchanges, and expanding cross-border cooperation. Although trade between the two countries grew last year, there is still greater potential for expanding ties.”

He concluded by stressing: “The Caucasus region should not become an arena for the presence and interference of foreign powers. The countries of the region are capable of resolving their own issues, and Iran hopes that by strengthening economic and political cooperation, regional relations can be elevated to a higher level.”
