First Non-Iranian Oil Tanker Forced Back by U.S. Naval Blockade
WANA (May 12) – Satellite tracking data of maritime traffic shows that an oil tanker carrying Iraqi crude, which had passed through the Strait of Hormuz a day earlier on its way toward East Asia, was later forced to turn back following intervention by the U.S. Navy.
The Greek-flagged tanker Agios Fanourios had transmitted its location signals in the Sea of Oman and was heading toward Vietnam after crossing the Strait of Hormuz.
However, updated vessel tracking data now indicates that the tanker was stopped and redirected back from its route.
Maritime monitoring account MenchOsint stated that the vessel was forced to return because it had crossed through a waterway controlled by Iran. The account added: “If the global economy is collapsing, it is not Iran’s fault — it is America’s.”
