WANA (Jul 30) – In his speech at a ceremony commemorating those killed in the recent Iran–Israel conflict, Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, underlined the importance of the Islamic Republic’s resilience. His remarks reflected both the confidence of Iranian officials and their ongoing efforts toward the country’s development and progress.

Several key points can be noted in this regard:

1. Over the past 46 years, there have been numerous attempts to undermine the resilience of the Islamic Republic, especially in recent years when the most severe sanctions were imposed on Iran. At the same time, thousands of online platforms and dozens of satellite TV channels sought to influence Iranian public opinion through intensive campaigns.

Nevertheless, during the recent conflict, an exceptional sense of unity and solidarity between the Iranian people and the Islamic Republic was witnessed—contrary to many forecasts and expectations.

2. Beyond public solidarity, Iran’s hard-power capabilities were also demonstrated in this conflict, particularly in the field of missile technology, which managed to challenge some of the most advanced air defense systems in the world and showcase Iran’s deterrent capacity.

The 12-day war not only highlighted popular support for Iran’s leadership but also underscored the country’s defensive strength in the face of threats.

3. Economic resilience must also be counted among the pillars of the Islamic Republic’s stability.

Despite U.S. efforts to tighten the economic blockade, Iran succeeded in selling significant volumes of oil to China—indicating that the pressure has not succeeded in halting Iran’s economic lifeline.

4. Taken together—popular support, military strength, and economic resilience—these factors have strengthened the Supreme Leader’s hand in making key strategic decisions. Relying on these assets, he has stood firm against external pressure and thwarted many of the opposing side’s plans.

5. In the author’s view, military confrontation was the adversary’s last resort to weaken or destabilize the Islamic Republic—undertaken less out of initiative than out of compulsion and constraint.

Yet the outcome of the conflict left the Islamic Republic emerging with greater cohesion and strength. Iran’s position—both in terms of domestic legitimacy and in its military and nuclear strategies—has become markedly different from what it was before the war.
