Flights Resume in Western Iran’s Airspace
WANA (Aug 22) – Transit and domestic flights in western Iran returned to normal this morning.
According to flight data, at the time of this report, three aircraft were crossing western Iran’s airspace en route to Batumi, Georgia; Najaf; and Baghdad. Additionally, two domestic flights bound for Abadan and Ahvaz had entered this airspace.
This indicates that the temporary flight restrictions in western Iran have ended and air routes are now fully operational.
Last night, Iran issued NOTAM “A2412/25,” announcing that the western airspace—from the border area to the Zanjan–Hamedan–Arak–Yasuj–TULAX corridor (a flight route corresponding to western Persian Gulf)—would be closed to transit flights from 00:21 to 06:00 on August 22 (31 Mordad in the Iranian calendar).
With the expiration of this NOTAM, flights have now resumed. Informed sources have cited the temporary restriction as being due to a military exercise conducted by Iran’s armed forces.
