WANA (Aug 15) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated during a recent address to cultural figures that U.S. President Donald Trump altered a public statement regarding the Strait of Hormuz following threats of military retaliation from Tehran.

 

Ghalibaf stated that during negotiations over a memorandum of understanding, Iran delivered a ultimatum through mediators after Trump tweeted that Iran would open the strategic waterway as part of a blockade removal. Iran demanded the post be altered, threatening an immediate military response if the condition was presented as part of the deal.

 

According to Ghalibaf, the pressure forced an immediate change in the U.S. position, with the tweet being revised under an hour later.

 

“I told the mediators that if this tweet was not removed immediately, we would strike with the full intensity I had described,” Ghalibaf said. “Fifty-eight minutes later, Trump removed the second portion and wrote that the strait would open from Saturday within the framework of the agreement.”

 

The Parliament Speaker added that the diplomatic stance was tied directly to security developments in Lebanon. He noted that Tehran halted all processes and issued its ultimatum immediately following a strike on the Dahieh district of Beirut, which killed Hezbollah’s intelligence chief alongside his family.

 

Ghalibaf framed the incident as a demonstration that military readiness directly dictates diplomatic outcomes, telling the audience, “This reflects the dignity of Islam; this shows that negotiation is a form of struggle.”
