WANA (Sep 09) – Esmaeil Baghaei, who is accompanying Iran’s Foreign Minister in Cairo, announced the finalization of a new “guideline for interaction between Iran and the IAEA on the implementation of safeguards commitments.”

Speaking to IRIB News from Cairo, the Egyptian capital, Baghaei said: “Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency have reached an understanding on how to engage under the new circumstances, following the unlawful attacks by the United States and Israel against our peaceful nuclear facilities.”

On Tuesday morning, September 9, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi traveled to Cairo to meet with Egyptian officials. He later attended a joint session with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.

Baghaei had already told news agencies on Monday evening that the draft guideline for Iran-IAEA interaction on safeguards implementation had been drawn up “based on the on-the-ground realities caused by the unlawful attacks of Israel and the United States against Iran’s nuclear facilities, the law passed by Parliament, and the considerations of the Supreme National Security Council.” He added that the draft was prepared over three rounds of negotiations between Iranian and IAEA representatives and was in its final stage of completion.
