WANA (Nov 02) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday signed the country’s largest gas flaring recovery project, an initiative that foreign commentators have described as a remarkable display of Iranian ingenuity and innovation.

International social media users praised Iran’s ability to convert flared gas into national wealth, calling it a major step in countering U.S. sanctions.

Some also criticized Western media for ignoring Iran’s technological and environmental achievements, while others suggested that Western hostility toward Iran stems from its growing scientific and economic self-sufficiency.

The signing ceremony, held online with the participation of the President, included 12 contracts for implementing the massive project within the National Iranian South Oil Company’s operational areas. The agreements also cover the sale of recovered gas to private and knowledge-based companies.

According to project details, the initiative will:

  • Extinguish around 30 gas flares across 11 operational units,
  • Prevent the daily waste of over 295 million cubic feet of associated gas,
  • Generate more than $550 million in annual revenue,
  • Produce 800,000 tons of gas liquids per year,
  • Provide steady feedstock for petrochemical industries, and
  • Inject 200 million cubic feet of light gas per day into the national grid, supporting energy supplies during winter.

Foreign users’ reactions highlighted admiration for Iran’s technical expertise and commitment to sustainable energy development, viewing the project as a symbol of resilience amid sanctions. Some of the reactions are as follows:
