Foreign Users: Strike on Iran Tarnished IAEA’s Credibility
WANA (Nov 18) – Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, said Sunday that Israel attacked a nuclear facility in Iran that is under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) supervision, stressing that such an incident had occurred “for the first time in history.” The claim has prompted criticism from foreign commentators, who argue that the incident undermines the IAEA’s credibility.
Over the past two days, non-Iranian users on X condemned Israel’s conflict with Iran and asserted that the targeting of an IAEA-monitored site during Israeli strikes demonstrated that “the Agency serves Zionist interests.”
Speaking at the international conference “International Law Under Assault: Aggression and Defense,” Eslami—who also serves as Iran’s vice president—referred to past Israeli attacks in Iraq, operations in Syria, and actions related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
He noted that none of the historical strikes on nuclear facilities had involved sites under IAEA monitoring, adding that “the attack on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities has jeopardized the Agency’s credibility.”
Foreign users went further, labeling the IAEA and its Director General, Rafael Grossi, as “Israeli spies” and “Mossad agents,” alleging that the leaking of Iran’s classified information to its adversaries has damaged not only Tehran’s trust but also global confidence in the Agency.
