France Withdraws ICJ Complaint as Iran Releases Two French Nationals in Swap Deal
WANA (Apr 07) – Two French nationals, Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris, have been released by Iran and have left the country under an agreement between Tehran and Paris.
The two had been convicted in Iran on charges including espionage for French intelligence services and conspiracy against national security.
Under the agreement, the French government committed to securing the full release of Mahdieh Esfandiari and withdrawing its legal complaint against Iran at the International Court of Justice.
According to the report, France had already formally withdrawn its case at the ICJ, and Esfandiari had been released several weeks earlier as part of the arrangement. She is now free and able to return to Iran at her discretion.
