WANA (Jul 09) – The funeral procession for Ayatollah Seyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei, the late leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, concluded in the holy city of Karbala after his body was taken to the shrines of Imam Hussein and his brother, Hazrat Abbas.

As part of the ongoing funeral ceremonies in Iraq, the body of the leader entered the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine in recent hours.

After mourners gathered in the Bayn al-Haramayn area with hearts filled with grief, the body was carried through the area and into the shrines of Imam Hussein and Hazrat Abbas. During the ceremony, an audio recording of the late leader sending greetings and salutations to his grandfather, Imam Hussein, was played throughout Bayn al-Haramayn and the Imam Hussein Holy Shrine.

Meanwhile, Saad Maan, spokesperson for the Supreme Committee overseeing the funeral ceremonies, announced on Wednesday that nearly three million people attended the funeral procession in Najaf.

Authorities in the Iraqi provinces of Wasit, Karbala, Al-Muthanna, and Najaf also declared Thursday an official public holiday in conjunction with the funeral ceremonies.
