G7 Latest Statement on Iran
WANA (Nov 13) – In their latest joint statement, the foreign ministers of the G7 nations leveled accusations against Iran.
The ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, along with the High Representative of the European Union, issued the statement following a meeting held on Wednesday in Niagara, Canada, under Canada’s chairmanship.
In the communiqué, the G7 ministers condemned what they claimed to be military assistance to Russia by North Korea and Iran, as well as dual-use weapons and components supplied by China, calling them key factors in fueling the war in Ukraine. However, Iran and China have repeatedly denied sending any military equipment to Russia for use in the Ukraine conflict.
The statement also urged Iran to fully implement its obligations under UN Security Council resolutions and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
Ignoring Iran’s ongoing cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the ministers called on Tehran to resume full cooperation with the agency, “including granting access for inspections to all nuclear facilities and materials.”
This demand comes at a time when, following U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear sites, the presence of IAEA inspectors has become practically impossible, and special arrangements are required to ensure their safety.
Without addressing the West’s betrayal of diplomacy, the G7 ministers further urged Iran to engage in direct negotiations with the United States, with the support of the European Troika.
The statement also called on all UN member states to uphold their commitments following the snapback mechanism, a process that Iran, Russia, and China have condemned as illegal.
