German President’s Condemnation of Rights Violations Against Iranians is Commendable
WANA (Mar 25) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has issued a sharp critique of the current state of global diplomacy, while offering rare praise for German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s recent stance on the rights of the Iranian people.
In a post on X, addressing the international community, Araghchi declared that international law has effectively “died in practice.”
He attributed this collapse to what he described as the Western world’s blatant double standards, specifically contrasting the response to the conflict in Ukraine with the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
The Foreign Minister further criticized the international silence regarding what he termed “Israel–U.S. aggression” against Iran.
Despite his broader criticism of Western policy, Araghchi noted that credit is due to President Steinmeier for his formal condemnation of violations against the Iranian people.
He emphasized that those who claim to value the rule of law must find the courage to speak up against such actions.
Earlier, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, speaking at a ceremony in Berlin, described the U.S. and Israeli war against Iran as “wrong” and “a violation of international law.”
Steinmeier, who previously served as Germany’s foreign minister, took a stance against the war, stating: “In my view, this war is a violation of international law.”
