WANA (Jun 16) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri discussed the latest regional developments during a phone call, emphasizing the need to fully implement commitments arising from the recent understanding between Iran and the United States and highlighting the responsibility of international actors to help end the war in Lebanon.

 

According to Lebanese media reports, the two officials reviewed political and security developments in Lebanon and the broader region, as well as progress related to the memorandum of understanding reached between Tehran and Washington.

 

A significant part of their conversation focused on provisions concerning the end of Israel’s military campaign against Lebanon under the framework of the recent agreement. Ghalibaf and Berri stressed that the United States, the guarantors of the understanding, and the international community must fulfill their responsibilities to ensure the implementation of its terms.

 

The two leaders also underscored the need to compel Israel to end its military operations in Lebanon, halt the destruction of villages and civilian areas, respect Lebanon’s sovereignty, and withdraw immediately from occupied Lebanese territory.

 

The call came one day after Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretariat issued a statement regarding the agreement to end hostilities between Iran and the United States. The statement said that, under the terms of the agreement, military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, had ceased immediately and permanently from Sunday night. It also announced the immediate and complete lifting of the naval blockade imposed on Iran.

 

Meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced in a post on X early Monday that a peace agreement had been reached between the United States and Iran. He stated that both sides had agreed to an immediate and permanent end to military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon, and that the formal signing ceremony would take place in Switzerland on June 19.

 

Sharif welcomed the commitment of both Tehran and Washington to pursuing a diplomatic solution to the conflict, describing it as an important step toward reducing tensions in the region.
