Ghalibaf: No Agreement Will Be Approved Until Iran’s Rights Are Secured
WANA (May 31) – Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, said Tehran does not trust the promises or commitments made by its adversaries and that any potential agreement would only be approved once Iran’s rights are secured in tangible terms.
Speaking during a virtual session of the Iranian Parliament on Sunday, Ghalibaf said that those involved in Iran’s diplomatic efforts “have no trust in the words and promises of the enemy,” emphasizing that Iran’s decisions would be based on concrete achievements rather than verbal assurances.
“What matters to us are tangible gains that must be achieved before we fulfill our own commitments. Until we are certain that the rights of the Iranian nation have been secured, we will not approve any agreement,” he said.
Ghalibaf also stated that achievements made in the military arena should be translated into political and legal outcomes through diplomacy. According to him, Iran’s military gains have been made possible with public support, and it is the responsibility of diplomacy to convert those gains into political and legal achievements.
In another part of his remarks, the parliamentary speaker said Iran is in the process of “pushing back the enemy in a major and historic conflict,” describing national unity and cohesion as the most important factors behind the country’s success.
He further said that Iran’s opponents are now using economic pressure and media campaigns to create divisions within the country. According to Ghalibaf, these efforts are aimed at undermining national unity, compensating for setbacks suffered elsewhere, and pressuring Iran into submission.
Ghalibaf stressed that, from the perspective of the Islamic Republic, the military, diplomatic, social, and public service spheres are all interconnected parts of a broader struggle.
He also called on parliamentary committees to prepare plans for rebuilding damage caused by what he referred to as the “Second and Third Imposed Wars.” He said amendments to relevant sections of Iran’s Seventh Development Plan, along with detailed, measurable, and time-bound reconstruction proposals, should be placed on the legislative agenda.
The speaker further emphasized the need for cooperation between Parliament and the government, while noting that Parliament would not provide a “blank check” to any institution or official. At the same time, he said the country should avoid becoming trapped in prolonged political disputes.
Ghalibaf urged parliamentary economic committees to prioritize economic stability, inflation control, liquidity management, production growth, and job creation in their legislative and oversight activities.
He concluded by expressing confidence that Iran would emerge successfully from the current situation through the strength of its armed forces, public support, and the efforts of officials to address economic and livelihood challenges.
