Ghalibaf Praises Pope Leo’s Courageous Stand
WANA (Apr 13) – The Speaker of Iran’s Parliament expressed appreciation for Pope Leo’s courageous stance, writing: By condemning the war crimes of Israel and the United States, the Pope’s slogan—“I have no fear”—resonates powerfully.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, wrote on his account on the social media platform X:
“In appreciation of Pope Leo’s fearless resolve: By condemning the war crimes of Israel and the United States, the Pope’s message—‘I have no fear’—echoes loudly.
This message lights the way for all those who refuse to remain silent or ignore the killing of innocent people.
Your leadership inspires millions—we thank you for this light.”
Meanwhile, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, posted a message on his social media platform Truth Social, launching an unprecedented and harsh attack on Pope Leo. He claimed that if he had not become president, Pope Leo would not have attained the papacy.
The Pope, as the spiritual leader of the world’s Catholics, is typically treated with respect by heads of state. Such remarks from a U.S. president directed at the Pope are rare or nearly unprecedented—especially given that Pope Leo himself is also American.
Pope Leo has previously criticized, on multiple occasions and in various forms, the U.S. and Israeli war against Iran. He had also earlier expressed opposition to certain policies of the Trump administration, including its measures targeting undocumented immigrants in the United States.
