Ghalibaf: The U.S. Must Decide Whether It Is Ready to Earn Iran’s Trust
WANA (Apr 12) – Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaking after returning from a visit to Pakistan, stressed that recent U.S. threats have no effect on the Iranian people and said Washington must decide whether it is willing to rebuild trust with Iran.
Addressing reporters, the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament thanked the Iranian people for their strong presence and support, noting that their response to the Leader’s message played a significant role in strengthening Iran’s position in the negotiations. He added that this public participation not only helped defend Iran’s rights but also enabled the opposing side to better understand the realities of the Islamic Revolution.
Ghalibaf described the talks as “intense, serious, and challenging,” saying the Iranian delegation, supported by capable experts, introduced constructive initiatives to demonstrate Iran’s goodwill, leading to progress in the talks.
He reiterated Iran’s longstanding distrust of the United States, stating: “The wall of distrust between the two countries is 77 years old. In less than a year, the Americans attacked us twice during negotiations. Therefore, it is the U.S. that must take steps to earn Iran’s trust.” He added that rebuilding this trust will be difficult and time-consuming due to past breaches of commitments.
The Speaker emphasized that Iran will continue its path toward progress by relying on its own capabilities and faith, and will not retreat in the face of pressure or threats. “That threats have no impact on the Iranian nation is not a slogan—we have proven it in practice,” he said.
Referring to past experiences, Ghalibaf noted that Iran has consistently resisted military pressure, economic sanctions, and political coercion over the past decades without surrendering.
In conclusion, he said that if the United States seeks a way out of the current situation, it must work to regain Iran’s trust. “If you choose confrontation, we will respond in kind; if you come with logic, we will respond with logic. We will not yield to any threat. If they test our resolve again, they will receive a stronger lesson,” he warned.
