WANA (Aug 18) – Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly, is set to depart for Iraq tomorrow morning leading a high-level parliamentary delegation.

 

The two-day official visit—conducted at the formal invitation of the Iraqi Speaker of Parliament—is aimed at discussing regional developments, strengthening strategic bilateral cooperation, and reviewing joint mechanisms to bolster stability and security across West Asia.

 

According to Mohammad Kazem Al-Sadeq, Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq, Ghalibaf is scheduled to hold extensive consultations with top Iraqi leadership, including the Speaker of Parliament, the Prime Minister, the President, the Head of the Supreme Judicial Council, and the National Security Advisor.

 

Their discussions will focus on key bilateral, regional, and international issues, as well as border security, anti-terrorism efforts, economic cooperation, and the execution of joint agreements.

 

Addressing questions regarding the timing of the visit, Ambassador Al-Sadeq clarified that the trip had been pre-planned and is unrelated to recent developments involving the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

 

However, he emphasized that given current regional dynamics, the visit carries significant weight, and close consultations between Tehran and Baghdad will contribute to greater stability and peace in the region.

 

As part of his itinerary, the Iranian Parliament Speaker is also scheduled to attend a commemorative ceremony in Karbala on Thursday, alongside local officials, tribal leaders, and members of the public.
