WANA (Jun 07) – Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, has reacted to the recent Israeli strike on Beirut’s southern suburb (Dahiyeh) and comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump, saying that Washington and Tel Aviv have demonstrated that they are neither committed to ceasefires nor genuinely interested in dialogue.

 

In a post on his X account, Ghalibaf wrote: “They neither adhere to ceasefires nor believe in dialogue. Through the naval blockade and their violation of agreements concerning Lebanon, they have shown that they only understand the language of power.”

 

Referring to what he described as a “naval blockade against the Iranian nation” and a “green light from the United States to the Israeli regime,” he added: “The naval blockade against the Iranian people and today’s U.S. green light to the Zionist regime make American and Israeli bases and assets in the region legitimate targets. Our armed forces, as always, have a free hand.”

 

Ghalibaf’s remarks came after the Israeli military announced strikes on targets in Dahiyeh, the southern suburbs of Beirut. Local media reported multiple explosions across the area, while Israeli outlets said the al-Mreijeh neighborhood was targeted by two fighter jets using approximately ten missiles.

According to preliminary reports, at least seven people were killed and several others injured in the attack. The Israeli military claimed that the operation targeted Hezbollah infrastructure and command facilities in southern Beirut.

 

In a separate statement, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the strike, saying it was carried out under the direction of Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz. The statement described the operation as a response to Hezbollah fire directed at Israel.

 

The attack took place despite reports that existing ceasefire arrangements were intended to prevent further strikes on the Lebanese capital. Earlier, Trump stated on his Truth Social platform that, following a phone call with Netanyahu, attacks on Beirut would be halted. However, Israeli media later reported that Israeli officials had informed the United States in advance about the latest operation in southern Beirut.

 

Ghalibaf’s comments reflect growing tensions in the aftermath of the strike, as regional concerns mount over the potential consequences of renewed military escalati on in Lebanon.
