WANA (May 23) – General Asim Munir, the Commander of the Pakistani Army, met with Dr. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, on Saturday in Tehran to consult on the latest status of negotiations to end the imposed war.

Statement from Iranian Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf

Speaker Ghalibaf expressed appreciation for the support and actions of the Pakistani nation and government across various periods, including during the recent imposed war and the subsequent negotiations.

He stated that these interactions are examples of good cooperation between Islamic nations and governments that can serve as a model for other Islamic countries.

He emphasized that Iran will not yield the rights of its nation and country, especially with a party that possesses absolutely no honesty and cannot be trusted.

He stated that just as the Islamic Republic of Iran defended the sovereignty of Iran with courage and authority on the battlefield, it will also strive with intelligence and power in the arena of diplomacy to realize Iran’s legitimate rights and secure the country’s national interests.

Ghalibaf noted that military figures understand the value of peace more than others and better than anyone, but those same military men will never allow the dignity and rights of their country to be trampled upon.

Regarding the actions of the United States, he stated that Iran was negotiating when America started a war, and now it says let’s negotiate to end it. He added that they were in a ceasefire that Pakistan mediated, and America, by breaching its commitment, imposed a naval blockade and is now looking to lift it.

He concluded with a warning that Iran’s armed forces have rebuilt themselves during the ceasefire period in such a way that, in the event of Trump’s foolishness and the resumption of war, they will certainly be more crushing and bitter for America than the first day of the war.

Statement from Pakistani Army Commander

General Asim Munir stated that the government and nation of Pakistan have the best wishes and good prayers for the future of the Iranians.

He remarked that both he and Ghalibaf are soldiers of their nations, and soldiers speak honestly and without hesitation, not in gray, but in black and white words.

The army commander expressed his satisfaction with the current leadership of Iran, stating, “I am glad we are at a juncture where Iran is managed by intelligent individuals who possess high insight.”

More Details About the Meeting

A member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, who attended this meeting, shared key details regarding the high-level discussions.

Fadahossein Maleki stated in an interview, referring to the Pakistani Army Chief’s visit to Tehran: “Given the goodwill between Iran and Pakistan, it is felt that we are getting closer to a final agreement (with the U.S.), but challenges exist.”

He continued: “Both the Iranian and Pakistani sides accepted that these challenges and missteps are from the American side, which damage the final agreement and may even weaken the negotiation table; especially from individuals like Witkoff who give unrealistic reports to Trump, and Trump tweets based on them, causing sensitivity in Iran and even resentment among our Pakistani friends.”

The member of the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee added: “What was certain in this meeting is that the Americans have accepted many of the issues, but we still have stages that will be determined in future sessions, and tonight there are also deeper negotiations between the two sides.”

Maleki stated: “We hope that with the wisdom and prudence of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Pakistan, the shadow of war will be removed from the region, and peace and stability will be established in the Middle East as well as the Strait of Hormuz.”

Concluding his summary, he said: “This meeting can be considered positive, but some of the recent stances of the Americans, especially Trump and the hardline U.S. Secretary of State, are somewhat concerning, and the Pakistani side must take these matters into greater consideration.”
