Gharibabadi Condemns Israel’s Move to Sever Ties with UN Chief
WANA (May 30) – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, has strongly condemned Israel’s decision to sever ties with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
The diplomatic rupture followed the UN’s inclusion of Israeli entities on its annual blacklist for conflict-related sexual violence.
In a statement published on the social media platform X, Gharibabadi criticized the move as a deliberate attempt to evade international accountability.
“Instead of accountability for the inclusion of its entities in the UN list on conflict-related sexual violence, the Israeli regime has subjected the UN Secretary-General to punishment – a sign of the same dangerous pattern: evading accountability by attacking international institutions,” Gharibabadi stated.
The senior Iranian diplomat further emphasized that regional ceasefires have failed to deter Israeli military actions, asserting that “in Gaza and Lebanon, the ceasefires have not led to a cessation of violence for the occupying regime, which has continued killings, bombings, violations of sovereignty, and forced displacement.”
Gharibabadi concluded by calling for decisive international legal action against the state, maintaining that “conflict-related sexual violence, attacks against civilians, and ceasefire violations should be pursued within the framework of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and international responsibility. The occupying regime’s impunity must end.”
