WANA (Jun 26) – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, has stressed that safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz cannot be ensured through ambiguous arrangements, parallel routes, or decision-making processes that disregard Iran’s role as the coastal state.

 

In a post on X, Gharibabadi stated that “safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz cannot be guaranteed through vague arrangements, parallel routes, or decision-making conducted without taking Iran’s considerations into account as the coastal state.”

 

He added that any credible framework for managing maritime transit in the strategic waterway must be based on coordination with Iran and the provisions of Article 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

 

According to Gharibabadi, any approach that fails to meet these conditions would ultimately result in the suspension of the designated parallel route.
