WANA (Aug 20) – Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, responded to Donald Trump’s remarks about launching an “economic war” against Iran, saying that after failing to achieve its objectives through military action, the United States has now labeled its next defeat an economic war.

 

Gharibabadi wrote on X on Thursday: “They claim Iran is on the verge of defeat and hanging by a thread, yet they are begging all their allies to help them.”

 

Referring to Trump’s announcement of a major economic campaign against Iran, he added: “The problem is the miscalculations they make every time, which force them to create an even bigger defeat for themselves in an attempt to cover it up.”

 

“The military war failed; now they have given their next defeat the name ‘economic war,’” Iran’s deputy foreign minister said.

 

US President Donald Trump had earlier announced what he described as the “most crushing economic operation” in history against Iran, while claiming that Iran’s military capabilities had been severely damaged and that the country was on the verge of collapse.

 

The remarks also drew a response from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who described Washington’s threats to launch an economic operation against Iran as an attempt to divert public attention in the United States from domestic financial crises, including unprecedented debt and sharply rising interest rates.

 

Araghchi also warned that continuing failed policies would only lead to further setbacks and deepen Iranian hostility toward the United States. He said Washington’s “economic terrorism” threatens the global economy and the national sovereignty of countries around the world.
