WANA (Jun 10) – The Naein Aba was globally registered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) as Iran’s 13th case in the field of Geographical Indications.

 

Narges Rajaei, the Director General of Handicrafts Training and Promotion, announced this news, stating: “The Aba of Naein, Isfahan, is one of the most valuable pieces of Iranian intangible heritage, born from the capable hands of artists who, for centuries, have infused their souls with love into the weaving of this ancient garment.”

 

She added: “The global registration of this work is not an end, but a new beginning for introducing Iranian creation.” Rajaei said, “Now that the world has realized the unique value of this traditional Iranian handwoven textile, it is our duty to create a bridge between this precious identity and the contemporary taste of the audience through comprehensive support and by updating marketing methods.”

 

Pointing out that this valuable art can transform the economy of local areas and provide a model of sustainable development, Rajaei expressed hope that the world should welcome Iran’s handicrafts with respect, as the firm steps of the Iranian artist remain steady on the path of transferring these trusts of yesterday to tomorrow.

 

In conclusion, while congratulating the country’s handicrafts community on World Handicrafts Day—especially the residents of Mohammadiyeh, Naein, which is the main center of Aba weaving production in Isfahan province—she expressed her thanks and appreciation for the efforts of the Association of Handicrafts Producers and Exporters of the Isfahan Chamber of Commerce, as well as the experts who followed through on the registration process of this important event.
