WANA (Apr 08) – Following the announcement of a ceasefire between Iran and the United States, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has called for Agency oversight of Iran’s nuclear activities.

Rafael Grossi welcomed the ceasefire this Wednesday and proposed that the IAEA play a role in verifying and monitoring Iran’s nuclear activities.

Grossi—who had only expressed concern and called for restraint during the “American-Israeli” aggression against Iranian soil and strikes near the Bushehr power plant—announced that the Agency is ready to support efforts toward a sustainable solution that includes Tehran’s nuclear program.

In a statement, the IAEA announced: “Director General Grossi welcomes the return to diplomacy aimed at reaching a negotiated agreement on key issues, including Iran’s nuclear program. The IAEA, through its essential and indispensable monitoring and verification role, is fully prepared to support these efforts.”

Early Wednesday morning, accepting Iran’s 10-point plan, Trump stated: “Almost all different points of past dispute between the U.S. and Iran have been agreed upon, but a two-week period allows for the finalization and completion of the agreement. On behalf of the United States of America, as President, and also representing the countries of the Middle East, it is an honor that this long-term problem is on the verge of resolution.”

The Islamic Republic of Iran has explicitly warned that in the event of an attack on Iran’s power plants, in addition to the total closure of the Strait of Hormuz, it will not only destroy the “Zionist regime’s” power plants but will also consider the power plants of all countries hosting U.S. bases in the region as legitimate targets.
