WANA (Jun 28) – Azizi, head of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security Committee, stated on the sidelines of the funeral ceremony for the victims of the Israeli attack, in an interview with an Iranian media outlet: “The IAEA has strayed from its technical mandate and turned into a political body serving the interests of global powers.”

He added: “As long as the security of our nuclear facilities is not guaranteed and Iran’s right to enrichment is not recognized, the Iranian government will refrain from cooperating with the IAEA.”

Relations between Iran and Rafael Grossi have grown increasingly tense in recent weeks. Iran believes that Grossi, by spreading false information and adopting politicized positions, was one of the key enablers of Israel’s attack on the country.

Tehran is seeking harsh retaliation and punishment for Grossi, whom it accuses of acting as a spy for Israel and the U.S. instead of fulfilling his role as Director General of the IAEA to assist countries in peaceful nuclear development.

In Iran, the majority of the public view him as an Israeli agent and believe the government should not allow him entry into the country. This sentiment is shared across both left- and right-leaning political groups.
