Grossi’s Report on Israeli Attack on Iran’s Nuclear Facilities
WANA (Jun 16) – In an emergency meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors convened today to address the recent Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi delivered a detailed report on the current status of Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Grossi stated that since Friday’s Israeli attack, there has been no further damage reported at Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, including the Natanz uranium enrichment facility. However, he confirmed that four buildings in Isfahan sustained damage during the attack, including the Central Chemical Laboratory, a uranium conversion plant, the Tehran Research Reactor Fuel Production Plant, and a UF4-to-EU metal conversion facility.
“The Agency is present in Iran and will remain there,” Grossi said. He emphasized that safeguards inspections in Iran would continue once safety conditions are restored, in accordance with the country’s obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
He added, “I am in direct contact with the inspectors on the ground. Their safety is our top priority, and all necessary measures are being taken to ensure they are not harmed.”
Grossi also warned that rising military tensions are undermining diplomatic efforts aimed at ensuring Iran does not develop nuclear weapons.
Regarding other facilities, the Director General confirmed that the Fordow uranium enrichment plant and the under-construction Arak heavy water reactor have not been damaged.
Grossi concluded by affirming that cooperation and information exchange between Iranian authorities and the IAEA remains ongoing.
