WANA (Mar 30) – The largest refinery in Israel has been targeted for the second time. The Bazan company announced that critical external infrastructure has been damaged and will require time to be repaired.

Israeli media outlets, including Channel 13, reported that the Haifa oil refinery was attacked for the second time in the past month. The strike, carried out early this morning (Monday, March 30), caused damage to parts of the facility’s vital infrastructure.

The Haifa refinery company (Bazan), considered the largest refining and petrochemical complex in Israel, stated in a notice to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange that “external infrastructure owned by a third party, which is essential for the operation of the complex, has been damaged and is expected to return to service within the coming days.”

The company also noted that most production units remain operational, while the rest are in the process of restarting.

This marks the second time the Haifa facilities have been targeted within a month. Previously, in June last year, during the 12-day conflict, the complex was directly hit by missiles, leading to a shutdown. Reports also emerged today of drone interceptions over Haifa and the launch of five rockets toward the northern port city.

Avihu Han, Deputy Mayor of Haifa and head of the Haifa Bay Cities Union for Environmental Protection, reacted sharply to the attack, accusing the government of “playing Russian roulette with the lives of Haifa residents and the energy security of Israeli citizens.” He emphasised that continuing refinery operations in the heart of a densely populated residential area represents a failure in both energy and security policy.

It is worth noting that since the escalation of tensions in the region, Israeli energy infrastructure has been repeatedly targeted. Previously, Yemen’s military had also launched attacks toward Haifa, which Israeli officials claimed were intercepted. These incidents come amid ongoing airstrikes by the United States and Israel on energy facilities inside Iran.
