WANA (Oct 01) – Hajar Safarzadeh, representing Iran at the World Para Athletics Championships in India, narrowly missed out on the gold medal in the women’s 400m T12 final, finishing just 0.01 seconds behind the winner to take silver.

On the fifth day of the championships, Safarzadeh—already a silver medalist at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games—clocked 56.39 seconds to secure second place. She led the race until the final meters, when the Russian athlete surged ahead at the line to claim gold. Competitors from China and Venezuela finished third and fourth.

This silver medal marks the seventh podium finish for Iran’s delegation in the championships. So far, the Iranian team has collected two gold medals (Amirhossein Alipour and Elham Salehi), two silvers (Mehdi Olad and Hajar Safarzadeh), and three bronzes (Amanollah Papi, Elham Salehi, and Zeinab Moradi).
