WANA (May 23) – Iranian martial artist Mahdi Hajimousaei has claimed the gold medal in the men’s under-63kg weight category at the Asian Taekwondo Championships in Mongolia.

 

On the third day of the continental tournament, Hajimousaei delivered a dominant performance in the final match, defeating his South Korean opponent, Jang, in two straight rounds to secure the Asian title.

 

Path to the Podium

Hajimousaei’s route to the championship victory featured a series of flawless performances:

 

After receiving a first-round bye, the Iranian athlete opened his campaign with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Lebanon’s Raphael.

 

He then maintained his momentum by defeating China’s Huang 2-0 in the quarterfinals to book his spot in the final four. In the semifinal and final stages, Hajimousaei continued his clean sheet, ultimately overcoming South Korea’s Jang in two rounds to stand on top of the podium.

 

Mixed Results for Team Iran

While Hajimousaei celebrated a gold medal, several other Iranian competitors faced early exits on the third day of the competition.

 

In the women’s division, Mobina Nematzadeh (under-53kg), Saghar Moradi (under-62kg), and Fereshteh Fathi (under-62kg) were eliminated from the tournament.

 

On the men’s side, Ali Ahmadi and Mohammad Hossein Yazdani, both competing in the under-87kg category, also fell short of the medal rounds.
