Head of Shiraz Criminal Court Murdered in Early Morning Attack
WANA (May 27) – Iranian Judge Ehsan Bagheri, head of Branch 102 of the Criminal Court 2 of Shiraz, was attacked and assassinated by unidentified individuals this morning while on his way to work.
The Chief Justice of Fars province announced that the assailants of Bagheri were two individuals who had lain in wait in front of his residence beforehand, and he was targeted in an assassination attempt as he was leaving his home.
According to Iran’s Judiciary, based on thorough investigations, Bagheri left his home at 5:30 a.m. today to go to work when he was assaulted with cold weapons by two unidentified men.
According to the conducted investigations, Judge Bagheri was an active judge who, due to the high number of cases he handled, would even review files outside official working hours and remained at his branch for hours after working time to examine cases and issue verdicts.
His colleagues state that Bagheri, in order to expedite the processing of citizens’ affairs—which has always been emphasized by the head of the judiciary—would take case files home and work on reviewing them there as well.
After specialized teams arrived at the scene of Judge Bagheri’s assassination, several case files were found in his vehicle, which he had taken home to speed up the process of serving the public.
By order of the head of the Judiciary, an immediate investigation into the perpetrators of the assassination of the Shiraz judge has begun to identify the individuals.
Judge Ehsan Bagheri, 38 years old, was born in Mamasani County. He held a Master’s degree in Criminal Law and Criminology, was married, and had one child.
