Heart Condition of Former Iranian President
WANA (Aug 20) – Seyyed Mohammad Khatami, former President of Iran, underwent a medical examination after showing signs of a heart problem, and his health condition has been reported as satisfactory.
His brother, Seyyed Mohammad Reza Khatami, announced on Wednesday that following persistent chest pain, medical evaluations revealed that the former president had blocked heart arteries.
According to him, a successful angioplasty was performed, and Khatami is currently continuing his treatment under medical supervision.

Following the news, Hojjatoleslam Ali Akbar Nategh-Nouri contacted Seyyed Mohammad Khatami to inquire about his condition. Several Iranian political and cultural figures, including Ayatollah Mostafa Mohaghegh Damad, Ali Akbar Salehi, Gholamhossein Karbaschi, Fatemeh Rakei, and Fatemeh Salarvand, also reached out via phone calls or messages to check on the former president and wished him a speedy recovery.
Seyyed Mohammad Khatami served as Iran’s president from 1997 to 2005 and became internationally known for his “Dialogue Among Civilizations” initiative.
His presidency was also marked by efforts to expand political and cultural space within Iran. After leaving office, he has remained an influential figure in the political and social arenas, with his positions on various issues continuing to attract attention from segments of Iranian society.
