Hormuz Open Exclusively to Iran-Linked Tankers Amid Tightened Controls
WANA (Apr 18) – Ship tracking data reveals that only tankers associated with Iran are currently being permitted to transit the Strait of Hormuz, following a decision by Iranian armed forces to reinstate strict controls over the strategic waterway.
Recent reports indicate that five tankers currently under U.S. Treasury (OFAC) sanctions and linked to Iran are transiting the strait. These vessels, classified as part of the “shadow fleet,” include the LPG and chemical tanker Crave, the LPG tanker Gardian, the oil and chemical tanker Torin, and the LPG tankers Raine and NV Aquamarine.
Tracking data shows these vessels are following Iranian-designated routes despite the U.S. military presence in the region. Some, such as the Raine, have extensive histories of transporting both Iranian and Russian oil cargoes.
This development follows an announcement earlier today by the spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, who stated that management of the Strait of Hormuz has reverted to “previous status” due to American “breaches of faith” and continued maritime blockades.
The spokesperson emphasized that the strait remains under the intensive control of the Armed Forces.
