WANA (Jul 23) – The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a targeted war powers resolution designed to prevent unauthorized military action against Iran, marking a significant congressional effort to reassert its oversight on war powers.

 

The resolution passed the chamber in a narrow 214–208 vote. Demonstrating a rare moment of cross-party coalition, four Republican lawmakers—Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick, Warren Davidson, Thomas Massie, and Tom Barrett—voted alongside Democrats to push the measure through.

 

Despite the resolution’s passage in the House, similar efforts encountered immediate resistance in the upper chamber.

 

The U.S. Senate blocked a parallel measure aimed at curbing President Donald Trump’s authority to unilaterally initiate military operations against Iran, effectively halting legislative action to constrain executive war powers for the time being.
