IAEA Deputy Director General Leaves Tehran After Talks
WANA (Aug 11) – The Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has left Tehran following discussions with Iranian officials on the agency’s engagement with Iran.
Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, told Iran Daily that Massimo Aparo, the IAEA Deputy Director General, departed Tehran after talks with an Iranian delegation composed of the Director General for International Peace and Security at the Foreign Ministry and an adviser from the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran. The discussions focused on how the IAEA and Iran should engage under the current circumstances.
According to Gharibabadi, it was agreed that, taking into account the issues raised in the meeting, consultations would continue.
He added that the Iranian delegation strongly criticized and protested the IAEA’s failure to fulfill its responsibilities during the recent aggressive attacks by the Israeli regime and the United States. The delegation also conveyed Iran’s demands for rectifying what it views as flawed processes governing the agency’s approach toward Iran’s nuclear file.
