ICRC President Meets Iran’s Foreign Minister in Tehran
WANA (Apr 29) – The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) met with Iran’s Foreign Minister in Tehran on Wednesday, April 29, to discuss matters of mutual interest.
Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the ICRC, held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on the latest developments related to humanitarian activities and bilateral cooperation.
Spoljaric Egger arrived in Iran on Tuesday at the head of a delegation, where she was formally welcomed by officials in the city of Astara.
The ICRC president’s visit to Iran is aimed at highlighting the organization’s role and mandate within the framework of international humanitarian law, as well as emphasizing its readiness to strengthen cooperation with Iran.
She also underscored the importance of all countries enhancing compliance with international humanitarian rules promoted by the global Red Cross movement, including through Iran’s Red Crescent Society.
During her two-day visit, Egger is scheduled to inspect medical centers, hospitals, and sites damaged during what was described as the third imposed war. She is also expected to meet and hold talks with Iranian officials on areas of cooperation and humanitarian assistance.
