IFRC Condemns Attacks on Iranian Red Crescent Workers
WANA (Jan 28) – The President and Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) have condemned any attacks against relief workers and the destruction of aid and humanitarian facilities of the Iranian Red Crescent Society during recent incidents in Iran.
In a joint letter addressed to the head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, IFRC President Kate Forbes and Secretary General Jagan Chapagain expressed sorrow and regret over the tragic death of Amirali Latifi, a member of the Iranian Red Crescent who lost his life while on duty. They conveyed their condolences to the Red Crescent relief workers and to Latifi’s family.
The letter, sent following a request by the head of the Iranian Red Crescent for the IFRC to condemn the terrorist plot in Iran, also expressed deep concern for five other members of the Iranian Red Crescent who were injured during rescue and relief operations in the city of Izeh, wishing them a swift and full recovery.
The letter stated that, in this time of mourning, the International Federation expresses its full solidarity with the entire family of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, noting that the organisation has suffered significant losses in 2025 and affirming its support during this difficult period.
The IFRC President and Secretary General emphasised that they condemn all attacks against humanitarian personnel and facilities and will continue to stress the necessity of respect for and protection of humanitarian workers. They asked that their sincere condolences be accepted, stating that the service and sacrifice of Amirali Latifi for the Iranian Red Crescent will always be remembered.
