India Set to Resume Iranian Oil Imports After Seven-Year Pause
WANA (Apr 01) – India is reportedly preparing to import its first shipment of Iranian crude oil after a seven-year pause, marking a significant development in global energy markets.
According to Javier Blas, a senior energy analyst, India is on the verge of receiving its first cargo of Iranian oil since suspending purchases years ago.
The price of the shipment is estimated at around $100 per barrel, reflecting an increase in the value of Iranian oil amid supply disruptions linked to ongoing conflict.
The move comes despite longstanding U.S. efforts to curb Iran’s oil exports through intensified sanctions and pressure campaigns aimed at reducing them to zero.
India’s return as one of the world’s largest crude oil importers is seen by some analysts as a sign of the limited effectiveness of Washington’s long-term sanctions strategy.
Economic experts view the development as an indication of shifting energy dynamics in the region and a potential increase in Iran’s leverage in the global oil market.
